This poem is entitled Sonnet to my brothers. The goal is to inspire an expanded view of masculinity based on empathy, compassion and emotional literacy.
Sonnet to My Brothers
You can’t heal what you can’t feel;
You can’t be what you can’t see.
The path to authenticity,
Goes through vulnerability.
There is no darker prison,
Than forbidding yourself to show emotion.
There are other ways, aside from your fists,
To offer your pain a safe place to exist.
Please know that it is never too late,
To become emotionally literate.
You just have to accept to let go,
Of the lies that have constructed your ego.
If you want to be a real man,
You just have to be real, man.
